SUGOI – Entrepreneurship
Manga, the japanese art of comic book storytelling, and anime, its animated counterpart, have become global phenomena, captivating millions with their rich narratives and unique artistic styles.
This project aims to create an app specifically designed for these fans, offering powerful and user-friendly features specifically crafted to their needs.
The project was born as a product design project and has evolved into a real-life startup, bound to come out into market soon on iOS and Android.
The world of manga is in constant movement. Fans talk, share, dress, eat, create fanart and basically, live and breath this hobby that in many cases, becomes their biggest passion.
The special thing about this passion is that it gets extra fun when shared with people alike.
With movies, fan meets, manga fairs, themed stores or even manga inspired restaurants, fans have many options to choose from when they want to share this hobby with friends and family.
However the majority of these experiences can’t take place on a daily basis. Behavioural trends suggest that the go-to choice in today’s world should be digital, yet fans have no social platform to come back to.
We believe that there is room to create a place where connecting, sharing, discovering and even trading manga becomes easy, inclusive and intuitive, while being available at any moment and time.
With this in mind, we aim to create a mobile app, a digital platform, where manga fans can have the room they need to access the best manga content and deals.

From the branding, the tone of voice, colors or typography, to the interface, user experience and content strategy; we are designing an appealing brand and a detailed mobile app, while staying true to manga’s noteworthy aesthetic.
Discover how we aim to change, improve and make more fun the interaction between the fanbase and the most relevant manga content.
The only proper way to design such a complex digital product is to have every decision backed with research facts. We conducted a quantitative survey that provided us with deep, precise insights from more than 200 participants specifically selected to represent the target users of the platform.
Based on this research, we were able to prototype a digital product completely in line with the user’s needs.
SUGOI stands for the fun and thrill that involves finding new and exciting manga content that suits your taste, and sharing that content with people alike.
With this approach in mind, we want to position our branding as fun, passionate and inclusive. We are offering an experience tied to the world of manga, and for that reason, the aesthetic of our image comes directly inspired from the construction, composition and other typical brand attributes that you can find in the world of manga.

The most important target when designing SUGOI’s branding was to make it be as close to manga’s aesthetic as possible.
For that reason, the process required an overwhelming level of empathy. It was one of the biggest challenges of the whole project. However, the result payed out in a bold, flexible brand that fits perfectly in every scenario where it’s needed.
Spain’s Art Directors and Graphic Designers Association annually presents ADG Laus design awards since 1964.
In 2023, with the 53th edition of the contest, SUGOI has been awarded in the digital project category, for its bold branding, and outstanding UI and user experience design.
Now, that really is sugoi!
This is just the beginning for what we believe its a viable, neccesary and awesome digital product. Manga fans are waiting out there for the perfect tool to enjoy the content they love most with the ones they love most.
After successfully pitching, we are growing up a passionate team commited to continue developing this project, and potentially getting it into user’s hands in the near future.
